Do what you must be doing presently. How to complete your tasks effectively?



We all have so many dreams and desires which want to fulfil and for that we think almost every day what we can do and what we must be doing to reach closer to our goal but sometimes what happens is that we know what we have to do at the present month or day to make our life better and productive but for some reason we do it and keep procrastinating the work we should be doing.

This can happen because of various reasons such as lethargy, over-thinking, and lack of confidence, lack of clarity, distractions or even discouragement by others.


But if you decide and get determined to do your work or an important activity you must be doing then it becomes a half battle won situation for you.

 

First and foremost stop over thinking and just do it! Over-thinking is just useless and doesn't serve you well in any way.

It creates more confusion, doubts, lack of confusion and mainly an illusion of fear stopping you from doing what you must do utilizing the precious present time which never comes back again. So you know it's time wasting too to think about something excessively and also over and over again. It's better to think thoroughly once, decide and just start doing your work positively.

 

Avoid distractions!

Distractions are also time wasters again which makes you do or spend time upon those activities which are unproductive and takes your focus away from your goals. These can include checking out social media posts for a long period of time, talking to people about useless topics or gossiping.

Let me share an example with you to explain this further, you are working from home and you have decided to write your daily work report which you have to submit to your manager in next two hours and suddenly a family member knock the door of your room asking about some household item and you answer them politely and they starts asking you other question regarding what lunch to cook or have you spoken to you aunt on call who was asking about you just one hour earlier and from all this you get so tired and annoyed that you just don't feel like writing about your work report which now you have to submit urgently as most of the time got wasted.


 


Due to urgency and pressure to give the report on time you just wrote a rough report and submitted it to your manager, what happens then? … your manager thinks that you're becoming irresponsible and not performing your work from home job well neglecting your tasks and mostly importantly looking at your report he/she may think that you don't even know how to write a good weekend report and present it well to your officials, when actually you have work hard during the day plus completed your work tasks well and in advance but because of a distraction you were not able to give right work report to your manager and now you look silly and irresponsible to them.

Now you know what a distraction can do to make your life unproductive and sometimes miserable too.


Stop just imagining and daydreaming about the sweet result, start putting in your effort into achieving it. Imagination is good and very important, every accomplishment starts with a thought and with imagination but without action all plans and thoughts about achieving your goals are useless.

It's like filling your stomach when you are hungry without eating food but by just imagining it. That doesn't happen in reality, it happens only while watching food eating Muckbang asmr videos and getting satisfied looking at a random person eating your favorite food.
But in reality you have to quit Imagining and start doing hard work and that too smartly without putting excess time to just one task.




At times it happens that we want to do something but there are other urgent and important tasks you have to do because those tasks cannot be avoided such as cooking lunch for family, taking shower, paying your electricity bill, taking your pet dog for a walk. Do all urgent high priority tasks first so that your mind is clear and you can only focus on the task you want to do presently.



As it happens with me that I want to write more articles in a day and design more banners but the time in a day is limited and I have to do urgent activities for family and myself too, so what I try to do is that I complete all tasks urgency and priority wise first and then my mind becomes relax and after that I write my article and complete doing thing u want to do calmly without any worries.

  

Another useful way to perform what you must do without wasting time and energy on other things is to set a time limit. Just do the task which you have decided to do at that time.

As an example, if you have decide to complete an important PPT presentation for your next significant meeting which can be a game changer for your career and can get you promotion in your organization then you must decide at what day /days and time you will work on it.



Say you decided that every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 7- 9 PM you will work on that presentation for next one month after reaching back home from office then you must complete all other tasks before this time so that you can properly work on the presentation and slides at the decided time. Write this on a white sheet and stick it on a wall which is always visible to you or on your room's door. 




This time limit will indicate and remind you to do the most important task at a specific period of time and will provide clarity in your work and performance. But make sure not to exceed this time and overdo work.

Keep check on your health and sleep properly because when you'll be fit and healthy then only you'll be able to work hard and create success for yourself achieving your goals.

 

So these are the ways I feel if we follow, we can do what we must be doing presently.
